Deep Muscle Relaxation:
An Autonomic Technique for reducing the Negative Effects
of Muscle Tension, Pain and Anger.
This audiotape was created for people experiencing muscle tension;
back pain and/or anger management problems. On side A, is an introduction
telling you how this classic squeeze-release technique works so
that you understand the rationale for following this technique.
On side B, you follow a thorough process of squeezing and releasing
the major muscle groups in your body so that a state of relaxation
results.
The process of releasing tension is something your body likes to
do. Using the technique regularly trains your body autonomically
so that it responds more readily and completely to the Deep Muscle
Relaxation. Painful muscle cramping and physical tension may be
associated with injury especially with injuries to the lower back.
When you are injured, your body stiffens as it tries to defend the
injured area. Unfortunately, this stiffening can cause acute pain,
cramping and discomfort. Deep Muscle Relaxation allows you to reduce
the pain associated with such injuries by facilitating improved
circulation to the injured area, which helps to alleviate distress.
If your job results in tension in one part of your body, you can
apply the squeeze release process to the particular set of muscles,
involved. For instance, computer users benefit from using the shoulder,
neck and upper back squeezes to release the muscle tension involved
in working for long hours at a keyboard. People who stand all day
may hold tension in their thigh or lower back muscles. These people
can likewise focus using the technique for those muscle groups.
Relieving the pain from lower back injuries involves a more holistic
application of the technique.
Just as for the Simply Relax tape, Deep Muscle Relaxation is designed
to be easily learned so that you quickly become independent of your
tape recorder.
